Tottenham born womenswear designer Ricky Wesley Harriott launches his SS18 Collection channelling a lifelong enchantment with the concept of the female assassin, a powerful yet feminine figure who exudes confidence, courage, and fearlessness.
Wesley’s collection has been inspired by the youth with whom he works and focuses on their unique viewpoint of the world. London has bred a distinctive mentality amongst much of its youth, manifested in an ‘us against them’ mindset. This belief has created a generation who are constantly anticipating friction, with no fear of fighting as they have so little to lose.
The designer prioritises the anger felt by many young people and channels through his collection the oppressive establishment that many believe keeps them stagnant. Pieces are purposely divided, portraying the conflict that weaves its way throughout the narrative within the class system. This is put across in the collection through the contrast between deconstructive tailoring and exaggerated streetwear. Deconstructed suits are made playfully utilitarian, with features including hidden pockets, removable sleeves and internal belts, helping to create sleek silhouettes to showcase the true Wesley Harriott woman – powerful and poised, but ever ready for confrontation. Celebrity fans of the brand include Lady Gaga Korean pop sensation CL, Golden Barbie and Jorja Smith who have all been spotted in the label.
